Reality television not only has made notables out of “Average Joes” and “Survivors,” but is adding to the wealth and notoriety of the already rich and famous.
This season, a number of recognizable high-society personalities are making an appearance on reality shows across the board, starting with the appearance of yet another of the Hilton household.
Heaven forbid the hotel-mogul Hilton family miss a chance to cash in on some more dough. Kathy Hilton, whose daughter Paris hit it off with her own reality show, “The Simple Life,” is following in her daughter’s footsteps.
Kathy Hilton is slated to host NBC’s “I Want to be a Hilton,” which debuts June 21 and will follow 14 contestants as they compete for the chance to live like a Hilton.
Throughout the series, Hilton guides the contestants through a variety of weekly challenges that range from art and culture to beauty and fashion.
The host then eliminates those who aren’t fit for the high life, and the finalist wins a lavish prize package that includes a $200,000 trust fund.
And continue to keep your cultural taste buds satisfied with ABC’s new “Dancing with the Stars,” as some famous faces put on their dancin’ shoes to show off their fox trot, tango and steamy salsa.
The show debuted last week and drew a crowd of more than 13 million to the television.
The hourlong dance extravaganza pairs a celebrity with a professional dance partner as they train and then compete in front of a studio audience in a televised dance competition. The pairs then are judged by a panel of experts and by the home audience, with one couple being eliminated each week.
Even if dancing’s not your gig, some of the contestants will surprise you.
Remember 1990 heavyweight champion of the world, Evander Holyfield? Well, he’s got a knack for tapping his toes and, according to his show bio, he even owns a dance studio.
Find out just how hot to trot the celebs are at 9 p.m. Wednesdays on ABC.
