GLENBURN – A Glenburn woman was taken to a Bangor hospital Sunday afternoon after she was pinned between an apartment building and a pickup truck while trying to keep the vehicle from rolling.

Mary Malloch, 45, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital with a possible leg injury. A nursing supervisor would not comment Sunday evening on the patient’s status.

Malloch was about to walk her dog Sunday afternoon on Sandy Beach Road at Pushaw Lake when she noticed a parked pickup moving forward in the driveway of the apartment building where she lives.

Malloch jumped into her neighbor’s vehicle, hoping to activate the emergency brake before it rolled forward down a small embankment, according to Trooper Michael Johnston of the Maine State Police.

As the black Ford Ranger, owned by Rod Yeager, 54, continued to roll, Malloch was pinned between the building and vehicle, while her right leg remained in the truck, Johnston said.

Capital Ambulance took Malloch to St. Joseph Hospital just after the 2 p.m. incident. Johnston said he wasn’t sure whether she had broken her leg. X-rays still were being done late Sunday.

The last person to use the pickup was John Hall, 55, another resident of the apartment building.

Yeager had let Hall borrow the vehicle and wasn’t home at the time of the roll. Hall told police that the truck must have slipped out of gear or was never fully in park.

Although the state of Maine requires brakes to be set at all times, no charges will be issued because the truck was in a private driveway, Johnston explained.

The accident also isn’t reportable for that same reason and because there was no anticipated travel on the road, the trooper said.

Glenburn fire and rescue also went to the scene, as did a forest ranger who happened to be in the area.

No damage was done to the truck or building.
