The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a fisherman Sunday who apparently suffered a heart attack while fishing about a mile from Egg Rock off the coast of Great Wass Island. The Coast Guard station received a call at about 10:15 a.m. Sunday reporting an emergency on board the 42-foot fishing vessel Eva M. The owner-operator, Raynard Alley, 45, of Beals, was in distress, although he was able to talk with Coast Guard personnel over the radio. The Coast Guard dispatched a 47-foot lifeboat from Jonesport, according to Petty Officer Joshua Ryan. The crew had a difficult time locating the fishing boat because of heavy fog but was able to track it down using radar. The crew transferred Alley to their boat, while the two crew members on board the Eva M followed the Coast Guard vessel back to Jonesport. Alley was taken to Down East Memorial Hospital in Machias. There was no immediate word on his condition, according to Ryan. (Rich Hewitt, BDN)
