WASHINGTON – Maine to get more than $2 million in federal funds to help lower crime, improve victims’ services and enhance emergency response operations statewide, according to U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.

The funds awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice will be allocated as follows:

. $2,030,000 for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services to enhance crime victims’ services in the state.

. $14,620 for the Westbrook Fire Rescue Department.

. $3,700 for the Ashland Police Department.

The DHHS money is aimed at supporting compensation and assistance services for victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, drunken driving, homicide and other crimes.
