BANGOR – Maine Army National Guard soldiers attached to Company G, 126th Aviation, have been called up for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

A brief send-off ceremony is scheduled for 8 a.m. Friday, June 17, in Hangar B at the Army Aviation Support Facility located on Hayes Street in Bangor.

After the ceremony, the soldiers will depart for Fort Dix, N.J., where they will undergo more training before heading for Iraq.

The company, which includes units from Maine, Connecticut and Puerto Rico, was formed in 2002 to provide aviation maintenance and logistical support to a Blackhawk battalion.

The 242nd Engineer Battalion also remains on alert for possible mobilization.
