State House disgrace

According to a recent article in the Bangor Daily News, a group from the Maine Transgendered Alliance handed out condoms to a group of 13-year-olds visiting the State House on May 26. The children were also given brochures printed by the Maine Bureau of Health (at taxpayer expense?) that recommended the use of condoms by people who “like to have sex with different people.”

This happened at the State House as children were visiting on their class trip.

House Speaker John Richardson said while the material might be appropriate for older teens he was disturbed that they were giving them to younger children. I do not think anyone receiving this material and seeing a drag queen at the State House would find it acceptable. It is a disgrace.

I have not seen another article about this or what was done to the group that participated. What is the atmosphere at the State House and with our Legislature that this can happen and be just another day in Augusta?

I am sure if a religious group was there handing out Bibles there would be many articles and letters condemning the behavior and our Legislature would be promising it would not happen again.

We must have separation of church and state. Exposure to the Bible could harm those children. Drag queen, condoms, sex pamphlets.

Oh, let us be tolerant.

Sexual orientation should have “special rights.”
