All too recently, SeDoMoCha Middle School eighth-grader Logan Hanson was diagnosed with cancer, and friends of the family are quickly stepping in to assist them during this difficult time.
“Let’s Cheer Logan On” is the theme of two fund-raisers scheduled for Saturday, June 18, at two locations.
The first event is an auction and potluck supper, with the supper from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by the auction, that day at the Charleston School.
To donate dishes for that supper, you are asked to call Terri Hall at 285-7374 or Patti Sprague at 285-7041.
To donate auction items, please call Trisha Higgins at 285-3075.
The other event is a potluck supper and raffle from 5 to 7 p.m., also Saturday, June 18, at the Dover-Foxcroft Fairgrounds.
To contribute dishes for that fund-raiser, call Megan Taylor at 564-7738.
Logan lives in Charleston with her mother and stepfather, Narda Hanson and Wes Stinson, twin sister Destiney Hanson, sister Mariah Hanson and brother Justin Hanson.
Her father and stepmother, Donnie and Dawn Hanson, are residents of Kenduskeag.
According to information provided by Patti Sprague, Logan’s fellow students and members of her community “are hoping to combine our efforts to help the Hansons” as much as they can, and any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
If you have questions, call Sprague at the number above or call her at work at 564-8376.
The first concert in the third annual Stewart Free Library Summer Concert Series is tonight, reports library director June Jaworski.
Ginger Dyer & Friends, “Corinna’s yodeling queen,” are to appear in concert at 7 p.m. on the library lawn or, if it rains, in the library’s upstairs auditorium.
All you are asked to bring is your own chair.
The concerts, all at 7 p.m. successive Thursdays at the library, continue with Spring Creek, June 23; Julie & the Bug Boys, July 30; Splitting Hairs, July 7; Dover Alumni Band, July 14; The Gelina Family, July 21; Country Tuners, July 28; and the Dover Community Concert Band, Aug. 4.
Meanwhile, the library’s summer reading program events are scheduled for 2 p.m. on six Wednesdays, at the library.
Dan Grady and his Marionettes are scheduled to appear June 29; the Milkweed Puppets, July 6; Northern Stars Planetarium, July 13; author Gary Schmidt, July 20; musician Julie Monroe, July 27; and Tail Waggin’ Training Center, a service dog demonstration, Aug. 3.
Jaworski reports that people of all ages are welcome to attend these free events but preschool children must be accompanied by an adult.
For information, call the library at 278-2454.
“Optimistic” has to be the attitude for planners of Corinth Old Home Days on Friday, June 17, and Saturday, June 18, since they’ve named this event, “Fun in the Sun.”
For the opening ice cream social 6-8 p.m. Friday at the town’s recreation field, you should bring lawn chairs to comfortably enjoy the entertainment of Rusty Coffey.
In case of rain, the event moves inside Central High School.
Rain or shine, Saturday’s activities begin with a parade.
Participants line up at 9 a.m. and step onto Main Street at 10 a.m.
The historical society will be open, and rides, games, concessions and more will be enjoyed by all from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the recreation field.
The “Cruize-In” will feature antique vehicles, those same hours, across from the American Legion Hall on Exeter Road. Prizes will be awarded in this event, and if you want information call Charlene Chesley at 285-3567.
A children’s pedal tractor pull is set for 11:30 a.m., and you can hear singer John Tercyak and Oyster Band perform at various times beginning at 11:15 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m., when the Step In Time Cloggers and Buckmasters Band perform.
Saturday’s events end with a lawn garden tractor pull at 4 p.m., behind Central Middle School.
If you are interested in this event, call Heidi Hathaway at 285-7562.
Finally, my Bangor Daily News co-worker, Tara Pineo, reports that the committee is already looking forward to next year’s Corinth Old Home Days.
But she said that after several years directing the parade portion of this special event, she is ready to hand over that responsibility to someone else.
Anyone willing to volunteer time as parade director can speak to her when you see her, or call her at 285-7282.
