Hampden police search for stolen rental truck

Hampden police are looking for a Fairfield woman who rented a moving truck from a local retailer on June 3 and has yet to return the vehicle.

Carlen Truck Rental on Mecaw Road contacted Hampden police Officer Ben Eyles on Monday to report the stolen truck.

Eyles was told that a woman rented the truck on June 3 and was supposed to return it the next day. The rental company has made repeated attempts to contact the woman, but has been unsuccessful, Eyles said Tuesday.

The credit card the woman used to rent the truck also “came up no good,” the officer said.

Eyles declined to give the woman’s name but said he has information that the woman may have returned to the Fairfield area. The truck has a commercial Maine license plate with number 7391042.

A Bangor man was arrested Tuesday on a charge of burglary after he reportedly stole a box containing a telescope from the home of a Vernon Street woman.

Ronald Lacasse, 57, was allegedly intoxicated shortly after 11 a.m. when Bangor police Officer Dennis Lally responded to a call from a witness, the officer wrote.

“I got a telescope, my friend said I could have it,” Lacasse told Lally, according to the report.

The Vernon Street homeowner came home for lunch while the officer was questioning Lacasse. She told Lally that she hadn’t given the telescope to Lacasse, who was then arrested for burglary.

Penobscot County Jail would not accept Lacasse because he was drunk, Lally wrote, so he was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and given a summons.
