OLD TOWN – The Veterans Memorial, which was moved when the city redesigned Riverfront Park, has been brought back in a bigger and better way, thanks to a local boy’s Eagle Scout Project.
The City Council recognized Seth Tillotson, 16, of Old Town, at last week’s meeting for his work on returning the monument to the park and enhancing the area where it sits.
Tillotson, a Life Scout in Boy Scout Troop 76 and now an Eagle Scout, was applauded by city officials, who presented him with a proclamation at the June 6 meeting.
The granite monument, erected in 1955, was moved from the south side of the park to the city library, where it remained even after construction at the park was completed.
For his project, Tillotson relocated the Veterans Memorial to the Riverfront Park, and installed a lighted flagpole and a plaque to honor all those who fought in wars and conflicts to ensure freedom for all, the proclamation read.
“His leadership and dedication on this project will be a positive presence in the City of Old Town for many years to come,” the proclamation read.
