Kyle, 11, is intelligent and social

Kyle is an alert, bright and social 11-year-old boy with a ready smile. A child who can be reserved initially, Kyle quickly warms up to people and shows a very social side. He is engaging, willing to talk at length about his possessions and interests.

Kyle came into the care of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services in June 2000. He has two older birth siblings and two younger half-siblings. He does not have any contact with any member of his birth family.

Those who know Kyle best describe him as “intelligent, charming, enthusiastic, active and a natural performer.” He engages adults easily but has more difficulty engaging with and relating to his peers.

Although he has asthma and uses an inhaler and nebulizer, Kyle is in good health overall. He is allergic to bee stings; in case of medical emergencies related to this, he carries an EpiPen auto-injector.

Currently in the fifth grade, Kyle receives assistance with math, an academic area that historically has been challenging for him. Kyle enjoys school and loves learning. He is sometimes less excited about following through with homework but is compliant with staff reminders. Kyle is well-liked by the teachers, staff and principal at his school.

Kyle lives in a group facility, where he actively participates in indoor and outdoor activities, as well as in organized outings. He is known to be very curious, creative and funny, enjoys entertaining others and likes to sing, particularly country music. His interest in music also extends to his participation in the school band.

Kyle has a particular interest in and fascination with buses and would like to become a school bus driver when he grows up.

Great with pets and older adults, Kyle volunteers one day per week to aid an elderly individual in that person’s home. This is a source of pride and increased self-esteem for him, as Kyle enjoys helping others. He is a good advocate for himself and for others as well.

Kyle is one of 226 Maine children currently in the care of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services care who is seeking an adoptive family. For more information about Kyle or other children available for adoption, please contact A Family for ME at (877) 505-0545 or visit www.afamilyforme.org.

Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
