BANGOR – A Canadian man was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court to 21 months in federal prison on drug charges.
Wayne Dow, 38, of Tower Hill, New Brunswick, was arrested Oct. 24 at the Milltown border crossing in Calais.
Border agents found 96 OxyContin pills in an arm of the center console.
He pleaded guilty in February to illegally importing the prescription painkiller.
Dow’s recommended sentence under the federal sentencing guidelines was between 18 and 24 months.
After his release from prison, Dow is expected to be deported and banned from re-entering the United States.
Dow, who had his three minor children in the car when the OxyContin was discovered, told border agents that he expected to be paid $200 per pill for smuggling them into Washington County.
