GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three Maine racewalkers captured All-American honors at the Nike Outdoor High School Track and Field Championships held at North Carolina A&T University on Friday.
Mike Kazmierczak, a senior from Plainview, N.Y., won the mile handily in 7 minutes, 27.81 seconds, followed by Padric Gleason, an All-American racewalker from Dresden who is a junior at Hall-Dale High School in Farmingdale, with a time of 8:06.64.
Third and fourth places were captured by Maine walkers Aaron Carroll, a freshman at Gardiner High (8:54.77), and Taylor Burns, a sophomore at Scarborough High (9:03.44).
It was the second All-American honor for Gleason, the first for Carroll and Burns.
Thirty-seven Maine track and field racewalkers from 22 schools from Caribou to Scarborough have earned a total of 116 All-American awards since 1993.
