LAMOINE – Janina Haslam, 14, died Monday night at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor of injuries caused when she was hit by a car while riding her bicycle along Route 184.

The girl was heading east when she was struck by a Chevrolet Prism driven by Natalie Barr, 81, at 9:45 a.m. Monday.

Haslam suffered head injuries and massive trauma to the chest. She was treated at the scene by rescue workers and then airlifted to the hospital by LifeFlight helicopter.

Barr held no significant restrictions on her license, Deputy Jason Lepper of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said Monday. Police are investigating the accident, but don’t expect to bring charges against Barr.

Barr declined Tuesday afternoon to give a statement about the accident.

Haslam, who was an honor student at Lamoine Consolidated School, graduated Tuesday from the eighth grade.
