Fogarty, LePage among UM field hockey recruits

ORONO – Meagan Fogarty of Dexter is one of nine field hockey standouts who will don the blue and white of the University of Maine in the fall.

Coach Terry Kix announced that Maygan Cassarino of Milford, N.H., Kelly Duchemin of Mashpee, Mass., Nicole Emery of Winthrop, Amanda Jean of Augusta, Katy LePage of Skowhegan, Kim MacDonald of East Greenwich, R.I., Regina Niekrash of Madison, Conn. and Amanda Sagan of Dallas, Pa., will join the program in September.

Fogarty, an all-state forward for the Tigers, finished her high school career with 109 goals and 47 assists, helping lead the Tigers to three state titles and the EM semifinals this past fall.

“She has an uncanny ability to score goals,” Kix said.

Jean was an all-KVAC first-team selection at Cony High in Augusta this past fall, while LePage led Skowhegan to four straight Class A state titles, compiling 59 goals and 29 assists for the Indians.

Emery, a Miss Maine field hockey nominee from Winthrop High, should bring offensive depth to the Bears.

“She as the potential to have a very exciting career at UMaine,” Kix said.

Cassarino is a first-team, all-state goalkeeper from New Hampshire.

“Cassarino will bring an immediate presence with her size, athleticism and excellent fundamental skills,” Kix said. “She will challenge for playing time immediately.”

MacDonald scored 46 goals and registered 18 assists at East Greenwich High School.

“MacDonald is a tremendous playmaker who brings amazing intensity to the game,” Kix said. “She has the potential to be one of the most successful and talented midfielders to ever wear a Black Bear field hockey jersey.”
