Antiques auction to benefit Bangor museum

The public is cordially invited to attend the second annual antiques and collectible auction to benefit Bangor Museum and Center for History from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at the home of BMCH outgoing President Patti Bixell, 36 Grove St., Bangor.

Sponsored by Merrill Bank and Deighan Associates, the fund-raiser is also receiving support from Granville Lumber, Frank’s Bakery and Town and Country Real Estate.

BMCH volunteer Lynn Hickerson said the free event, which will be held under a tent, will feature a silent and live auction with local antiques expert Robert Croul serving as auctioneer.

While there is no admission charge to attend the event, hot dogs and sodas, along with ice cream, will be on sale and representatives of Quirk Mercedes will be present, offering test drives to benefit BMCH.

The Bangor Museum and Center for History, formerly the Bangor Historical Society, is located at 6 State Street in downtown Bangor.

Let’s hope everyone in the Milo area has registered their youngsters to participate in the Children’s Parade, and are making plans to attend the Kid’s Karnival which follows.

The parade starts at 9 a.m. Saturday June 25 at the Milo Farmers’ Union, 55 Park St., and children of all ages are welcome to participate, Malinda Nason reports.

The parade participants line up at MFU’s farthest entrance, she said, and the parade ends at the entrance to Rite Aid on Morrill Street in Milo.

However, you must visit Rite Aid in Milo to sign up for the parade.

If you have questions about the parade call 943-8750.

The Kid’s Karnival runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Rite Aid parking lot.

There you will find games, prizes, food, face painting and temporary tattooing.

The two events benefit Children’s Miracle Network of Eastern Maine Healthcare.

When it comes to high school reunions, I believe members of the Ellsworth High School Alumni Association really have it all together.

EHAA president Michael Povich reports the reunion begins with registration at noon Thursday, June 30 and continues through Sunday, July 3.

Throughout the weekend a hospitality room will be set up in the EHS cafeteria, serving as a message and assistance center, offering light refreshments and the opportunity to visit with old friends.

Alumni and members of the public are invited to enjoy show tunes played by the Full Moon Players at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, July 1 at the EHS auditorium.

Tickets are $12, and are available at Larry’s Pastry Shop or by calling Linda Grindle at 667-5716.

A basketball tournament at 6 p.m. Friday in the gymnasium honors the All State championship teams, and the evening closes with a dance featuring Bob Haskell’s Big Band in the EHS cafeteria.

Saturday’s alumni events include a golf tournament, mix and match tennis, road races at Whitney field, miniature golf at Eastwood Bowling Lanes, a social hour at the Holiday Inn and another dance.

Everyone is invited to attend the Rotary Club’s blueberry pancake breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 3 in the EHS gymnasium, where the Ellsworth Alumni Choir will provide breakfast music, Povich reports.

Eight alumni members of the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame will be honored during the breakfast, and a memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. in the EHS auditorium.

Also during the reunion, Povich wrote, Patsy Wilbur Jordan will be available “with her genealogy mobile unit,” which he considers “a great opportunity to check out your family connections.”

The 2005 EHS reunion ends with an afternoon party at Jenkins Beach.

The alumni association has raised more than $250,000 for its endowment fund and presented $27,000 in scholarships to EHS graduates.

Povich urges “all former students to attend these weekend events, have fun, and help increase our funds so that more scholarships can be awarded to deserving students.”

He reminds you “they could even be your son or daughter.”

Alice Redmond e-mailed that the Frankfort Congregational Church is hosting a public turkey supper “with all the fixings,” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at the church on Main Road in Frankfort.

Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for children and free for preschoolers.

The Weekly had the wrong date for the ceremony to mark the 90th birthday of Kay Lebowitz. A proclamation in her honor will be issued at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 27 in Bangor City Hall council chambers.
