MILFORD – Residents approved the proposed $6.1 million budget at this week’s annual town meeting.
About 50 residents attended, Town Manager Jim Hancock said. Although there were a lot of questions, he said the meeting went smoothly.
The budget has decreased since last year, meaning that the mill rate has dropped from $19.80 per $1,000 of property valuation to an estimated $17.50.
“We have some extra revenues,” Hancock said Thursday, noting that excise taxes have increased.
A decrease in the school budget of about $150,000 compared to last year also reduced the tax rate. Declining enrollments and legislation that limits school funding previously were cited by Union 90 Superintendent Mike Cyr as reasons for the reduction.
The total school budget is about $4.5 million, while the town side is about $1.6 million. The total to be raised from property taxes is approximately $2.3 million.
