New green view highlights coming Warren Day

WARREN – Warren Day will be a lot greener this year down by the Old Mill.

With the dilapidated Crowe Rope Building gone, the vacant lot by the St. George River will provide a scenic backdrop to the annual community event.

“We’re looking forward to a big year with the new grassy area,” said organizer Shelly Nichols Thursday. “We’re all excited about that and being able to see the river.”

The event starts 6 a.m. Saturday with a pancake breakfast at the fire station served up by the Warren rescue crew. The All Aboard Trolley will shuttle people up and down the hill on Main Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Most of the activities will take place near the Old Mill.

From dawn to dusk, the old-fashioned community gathering tries to offer something for both young and old, including a pet show, cake and cookie walk, crafts, sticker hunt, face painting, quilt exhibit, tote bag and book sale, raffles, games and more.

Watermelon eating and seed spitting contests are also on tap at 9:30 a.m. for adults and children.

The second annual bed race down Main Street is in the lineup, as well as bubble gum blowing and egg carrying contests.

At 1 p.m., a chicken barbecue gets under way at the nearby George Field IV.

Clowns, magicians and comedians will entertain, along with music by Jacob Sawyer & Friends, and folk duo Dusty & Joanna, who will play at the Warren Historical Society building.

A 6 p.m. auction at the Warren Masonic Hall featuring auctioneer Clayton Winchenbach concludes the Day. Because of river tides, the usual Duck Race will not take place this year.
