As a recent retiree and member of AARP, I’ve been very disappointed with their stance on Social Security reform, particularly regarding voluntary personal retirement accounts.
Most of the members I know are parents and grandparents of middle-aged and soon-to-be workers and they are genuinely concerned with the possibility that these young men and women are pouring their hard-earned wages into a system that will not be there when they retire.
Why not give them a choice? If we continue down the road we are on, then we are certain to leave younger generations with the mess we made.
The AARP was created to represent the interests of its members – retired seniors – not pursue its own political agenda.
Besides, is it not in our interest to ensure that our own family will be taken care of when they reach retirement?
