Web site lets moose hunters swap zones via the Internet

The Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine has created an on-line informational database for those wishing to swap their moose-hunting permits for a different zone.

The on-line swapping system lists hunters who want to swap their hunting zones, so other hunters can contact them to arrange the swap.

Hunters can sign up on SAM’s Web site, www.samcef.org, and for $5 can list their name, phone number and e-mail address, the type of permit they have (bull or antler-less), the zone they have and the zone they want.

Participants have the choice to sign up with a credit card on-line or over the phone at 622-5503, or by sending a check for $5, along with the above information, to SAM, 205 Church Hill Road, Augusta, 04330.

Once a hunter finds a potential swap, they can contact the other hunter directly and arrange the switch. After the match is made, the two hunters can contact the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife at 287-8000 with the information and the DIF&W will make the swap and send each hunter a new permit.

After the swap is completed, hunters are asked to call the SAM office to have their name removed form the on-line database.

Eastbrook bass derby on tap

The town of Eastbrook will celebrate its annual public fair, Eastbrook Days, which will include an all-day bass-fishing derby on July 10.

This year, for the first time, entries will be permitted for all ponds in Hancock County.

Tickets cost $5 per fish and are available at various outlets listed at www.eastbrookmaine.org.

The event offers prizes worth more than $1,000, divided nearly equally between fishermen’s prizes and raffle prizes. Every ticket-holder is eligible to win raffle prizes, whether they fish or not.

For more information, check Eastbrook’s Web site or call Stefan Nadzo at 565-2016 or 866-0322.
