OLD TOWN – Superintendent Matthew Oliver has resigned, but he said he will stay on as long as the school board needs him to.

Oliver said he has enjoyed the two years he has spent at Old Town, but he wants to be able to spend more time with his family and less time on the road. He commutes more than an hour to work each day one way.

“I’m going to miss him, and I think the city’s going to miss him,” City Manager Peggy Daigle said.

She added that although she has worked with Oliver for less than a year, she found him very enlightening, encouraging, upbeat and open.

“I think he’s been very good for the school system and the city on the whole,” Daigle said.

Oliver isn’t sure where he’s going when he leaves Old Town, but said he’s looking at several options that are closer to home.

“The Old Town School Department has a lot of good people, so whoever does come on board will appreciate greatly the talents and abilities of those around him or her,” Oliver said.
