GLENBURN – Three people were injured Wednesday and one of them faces charges after a two-vehicle accident on Route 15.
Joseph Wright, 33, of Corinth was turning south out of the parking lot of the Village Variety store about 4:30 p.m. when he pulled in front of a car heading north and driven by Ryan Lounsbury, 20, also of Corinth, according to state police.
The crash heavily damaged both vehicles and sent both drivers and a 17-year-old female passenger in Lounsbury’s car for treatment at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, State Trooper Michael Johnston said Wednesday. All three were wearing seat belts, and they suffered abrasions, but the injuries weren’t serious, according to the trooper.
At the time of the accident, Wright’s license was suspended, and he still had the license on him, even though he was supposed to turn it in to the state when it was suspended, the trooper said. Johnston charged Wright with operating a motor vehicle after license suspension, unlawful use of a driver’s license, failure to surrender a suspended license and failure to yield to a vehicle on a public way.
Traffic was reduced to one lane for about half an hour, he said.
Johnston said the impact caused some oil and gas to leak from Wright’s pickup truck, which was contained by firefighters from Glenburn and Bangor. Ambulances from G&H Ambulance and Capital Ambulance services were called in and Johnston said he was assisted on scene by a Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy and an off-duty Penobscot County Jail corrections officer who lives in the area.
