BRADLEY – Step back in time to the 1790s as the Leonard’s Mills sawmill and logging village comes alive with volunteers in period dress performing tasks typical of the season. Living History Days will take place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 16-17, at Leonard’s Mills in Bradley.
Roaming the site to the music of bagpipes or fiddles, families, groups and individuals may sample bean-hole beans, reflector oven biscuits, and hot or cold cider. There will be traditional Maine demonstrations by spinners and weavers, blacksmiths, basket makers and others.
Children may dip candles, make cedar shakes, row a river batteau, take a ride in a horse-drawn wagon and participate in hands-on activities.
A courtesy van is provided during Living History Days to transport guests unable to walk between the parking lot and settlement site. Portable toilets, handicapped-accessible and standard, as well as “period sanitary facilities” are available on these days. A lunch wagon and the museum gift shop also will be open for business.
Admission is $7, $2 for children ages 2-12. Members are admitted free of charge. To obtain more information, visit www.leonardsmills.com or call the museum office at 581-2871.
