Achievement Academy

The United States Achievement Academy announced that Yukari Ueda of Bangor has been named an All-American Scholar At-Large Award winner. Her photo will appear in the All-American Scholar official yearbook, which is published nationally. The organization recognizes fewer than 10 percent of American high school students.

Academic Year in the USA

BANGOR – Exchange students from more than 50 countries will arrive in the Bangor area this fall to participate in an Academic Year in the USA.

AYUSA International, a nonprofit youth exchange organization, is seeking families in the area who are interested in serving as host to a student.

AYUSA students are selected according to maturity and flexibility, academic and extracurricular achievements and a dedication to international and civic responsibility. AYUSA students arrive in Bangor the end of August. They come equipped with medical insurance, spending money, a firm command of English and a strong commitment to become a member of the community.

Host families are asked to treat the student as one of their own, providing food, a bed – though not necessarily a private room – and a loving family environment. Host families do not need to have a child of high school age in order to serve as hosts.

To obtain more information, call Linda Goodness, community representative, at 989-6294.

The WRC will report back to the sweatfree advisory committee, made up of three administrators, to be appointed by the university; three faculty members, Francois Amar, Mark Haggerty and another yet to be determined; and three students, Sarah Bigney, Alec Aman and Tracy Allen.
