GHS-PCHS alumni called to register for banquet

Having another event, such as the Piscataquis River Festival, occur on the same day as the Guilford High School-Piscataquis Community High School Alumni Association Annual Banquet has been the wish of association president Phil Bullard for some time.

Bullard believes such an event not only might draw more alumni to the area on that particular day, but also might keep them well-entertained while they are here.

This year, Bullard’s wish came true.

The GHS-PCHS Alumni Association Banquet begins with a reception at 5 p.m., followed by the banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at PCHS in Guilford, the same day as the Piscataquis River Festival.

The buffet will be followed by a short business meeting at 6:30 p.m., Bullard reported.

However, there is one important piece of information that GHS-PCHS alumni, who are planning to attend the banquet, need to know.

“We have to let Perley’s Catering know, in advance, how many to expect, so everyone must preregister for the banquet,” Bullard said.

“They don’t need to pay in advance, but they do need to register.”

Bullard requests registrations be made by Friday, July 22.

You can do so by calling him at 876-2662, e-mailing PJBullard38@hotmail.com, or writing him at P.O. Box 60, Abbot 04406.

If you cannot reach him, you can call Niki Fortier at 876-3191 to let the association know you will be there.

Before the banquet, the Alumni Association will host a 9-Hole Scholarship Scramble at 1 p.m. that day at Piscataquis Country Club.

The $25 cost per person includes greens fees and a golf cart. To register, call PCC at 876-3202.

Proceeds from the scramble will help support the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.

President Debbie Paradis and members of the Bangor Noon Kiwanis will hold its “delicious Pancake Breakfast” from 6 to 10 a.m. Monday, July 4, at Brewer Auditorium, reported member Jane Searles.

Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for children.

“We will, again, be serving up Tate’s strawberries, donated by Tate’s of East Corinth,” she wrote, “and serving sausages donated by Dennis Paper and Food Service and, of course, coffee donated by Dunkin’ Donuts of Brewer.”

Kiwanians will serve “as wait staff and cooks for this longtime traditional beginning to the July 4th activities held in Greater Bangor,” Searles added.

In addition to its mission of funding local children’s programs, including bicycle and safety programs, camp scholarships, soup kitchens and holiday parties for Head Start, “the Greater Bangor Kiwanis Clubs organize and fund many of the July 4th activities each year,” Searles wrote.

Rain or shine, join us for breakfast, stay for the parade and enjoy the fireworks.

Scott and Shari Duthie, owners of Whitetail Golf Course, have announced it is time to sign up for the annual Stephen Gomm Memorial Tournament, which features two shotgun starts, at 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at WGC in Charleston.

“Stephen was one of the teens killed in an automobile accident … in 2002,” Shari Duthie wrote of the late Old Town resident.

Proceeds from the tournament raise money “for a scholarship fund set up in his name at Old Town High School,” she added.

The $25 per person fee for the three-person team, scramble format, includes a buffet lunch.

Business owners who want to contribute to the fund-raiser can sponsor a hole for $100 or donate a gift certificate or merchandise for prizes.

“Any donation is greatly appreciated,” Duthie wrote.

The tournament is open to anyone who would like to play and help sustain the OTHS scholarship in memory of Stephen Gomm.

You can register for the tournament, or receive more information about supporting it, by calling 285-7730.

On behalf of the Miosac Club of Dover-Foxcroft, Roxana McGlauflin invites the public to attend its house tour from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 16.

The tour features a cross-section of houses from new homes to older ones, which have been restored.

Refreshments will be served at the clubhouse at Thayer Parkway, “which “is off Park Street, across from the YMCA,” McGlauflin said.

Tickets, which serve as your maps, are $10 each and are available from any club member, or by calling McGlauflin at 564-2067.

Proceeds benefit the Thompson Library Building Fund and the Piscataquis Regional YMCA.
