BAR HARBOR – A disgruntled former employee of the Bar Harbor Club was arrested Thursday in connection with the theft of $4,500 worth of kitchen equipment, according to police.

Dallas Newman, 42, a summer worker in town, allegedly broke into the kitchen of the Bar Harbor Club sometime Wednesday night and stole a KitchenAid mixer and an industrial-grade food processor. There was no sign of forced entry in the building.

Club staff noticed the kitchen tools were missing the next morning, and Newman was identified as a possible suspect, Sgt. David Kerns said Friday.

When police searched Newman’s West Street apartment, they found the mixer and food processor hidden in the kitchen under a pile of trash bags.

Newman was also found to have two outstanding warrants. He was arrested and taken to Hancock County Jail, where he had not made his bail as of Friday afternoon. He will be charged with burglary, Kerns said.
