Derbyshire wins at Unity Turner, Trask, Burgess, Bickford also post victories

UNITY – Mount Vernon’s Judd Derbyshire took his third checkered flag of the season in the Late Model Pro-4 class, overcoming a mid-race spin and holding off newcomer Tim Robinson of Clinton by two car-lengths Saturday night.

It was the second event in the class’s Triple Crown Series.

Derbyshire, who had been involved in a lap-11 wreck with Starks’ Steve Rackliff, inherited the lead on a lap 25 restart prompted by a wreck involving Vassalboro’s Ed Drake Jr., Robinson and Paul Shorette of Winslow.

He then held off the charging Robinson.

Rackliff was third, Drake finished fourth and Norm Cummings Jr. wound up fifth.

Beech Ridge Motor Speedway

At Scarborough, Dan McKeage of Gorham passed East Parsonsfield’s Treavor Sanborn with nine laps to go to win his second-straight NASCAR Pro Series race. Sanborn finished second, Bobby Babby of Windham was third, Mike Maietta Jr., of South Portland finished fourth and Seabrook, New Hampshire’s Jay Sands was fifth.

Oxford Plains Speedway

At Oxford, South Paris’ Al Hammond picked up his first win in nearly two years and the 79th of his career in the pro stock division at Oxford Plains Speedway Saturday night.

Hammond passed Scarborough’s Kevin Kimball on lap 14 and led the final 36 laps to finish two seconds ahead of Norridgewock’s Jeff Taylor.

The 62-year-old Hammond is second to Turner’s Mike Rowe in career pro stock wins at OPS.

Kimball wound up third, his best finish of the season.

Livermore Falls’ Scott King was fourth and Topsham’s Jeremie Whorff rounded out the top five.
