What a special Quietside Flamingo Festival this is going to be as residents of Southwest Harbor celebrate their centennial, and Harbor House Community Service Center celebrates its 40th anniversary.

The festival is July 12-18 and begins with a Family Night Pajama Picnic and Pizza Party with entertainment by the Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, on Pemetic Green between HHCC and St. John the Divine Church in Southwest Harbor.

Wednesday, July 13, activities include story time for children, the Perky Pet Show, a “bring your own picnic” and centennial concert with Sammie Francis.

All activities each day will be under a tent, rain or shine, on the green.

Kaja Veilleaux conducts an Antique Appraisal Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, July 14.

Midnight Rose plays for your dancing pleasure at 6 p.m. Friday, July 15; DownEast House of Dogs will sell gourmet hot dogs; and Westside Grill will sell homemade ice cream.

A pancake breakfast at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, gets that day off to a good start, followed by the Tremont Trot Road Race at 8:30 a.m.

The Flamingo Parade with Grand Marshal Dennis Damon is 9:30 a.m.; a flea circus, a Coast Guard Open House, croquet tournament and an evening magic show are part of this day’s fun.

The Hospice Regatta of Maine is also Saturday, but advance reservations are necessary for the Celebration of Hospice Public Lobster Bake at 5 p.m. Call 667-2531 for tickets.

A golf scramble is Sunday, July 17, along with a special Centennial Concert with Danny Harper at 3 p.m. Tickets are available for a cocktail party at the Causeway Club Barn.

Festivities conclude at 7 p.m. Monday, July 18, with Flash in the Pans performing to benefit HHCC and the MDI Alcohol and Drug Abuse Group.

For more information, call HHCC at 244-3713 or visit www.harborhousemdi.org.

Late Castine sculptor Clark Fitz-Gerald is the subject of a new video, “Maine Master,” premiering at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 8, in Delano Auditorium at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine.

The location is a new site to accommodate a larger audience, reports Vicki Sheridan.

Reservations are not necessary and signs will be posted directing you to the auditorium.

This is the eighth video in the Maine Masters series of the Union of Maine Visual Artists, which documents the life and work of a Maine artist.

The video is sponsored by Castine Arts Association; a reception follows the video. Admission to both is free. More information can be obtained from Sheridan at 326-9566.

Donations have filled a two-car garage, a single-car garage and a storage unit, Marylou Matthews wrote of the Southwest Harbor Animal Shelter Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, rain or shine, at Tremont Community Center on Route 102.

If you can help setting up or transporting items today, call 244-3749.

A no-kill shelter, this 50-year-old nonprofit corporation, formerly the SPCA of Hancock County, charges no fees to adopt animals. All sale proceeds benefit the shelter.

Stonington Public Library House Tour Committee members hope you attend the library’s third annual house tour, 1-4:30 p.m. Friday, July 15, in Stonington.

“This year, the tour features houses designed by Emily Muir,” Mary Blackmore wrote of the local artist, sculptor and conservationist.

Before the tour, at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at the Methodist Church on Sea Breeze Avenue, architectural historian Dr. Nina Meyer will present an illustrated talk on the Muir houses.

Tickets are available by calling 367-2409 or 367-5926.

The 14th annual M*A*S*H Blood Drive, sponsored by the American Red Cross Blood Services New England Region, is 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Bangor Civic Center.

Trudy Darling of the ARC reports this is the “largest northern Maine blood drive of the year,” and its goal is to gather “250 productive units,” which means at least 300 donors are needed to participate.

A new M*A*S*H T-shirt will be offered; Old Town Canoe has donated a kayak for a raffle; LifeFlight of Maine will have a helicopter for viewing; Domino’s Pizza will feed you; Shrine clowns will entertain you; and Red Sox tickets or many other prizes can be yours for donating the gift of life.

For more information, to volunteer for the drive or contribute a prize, call (800) 432-7376 or 941-2900.
