Jessica, 15, loves to read and explore

Jessica is an upbeat, energetic teenager who is fun to be around. She enjoys spending time outdoors, likes exploring in the woods and enjoys swimming and in-line skating.

Jessica also likes to ride her bike, watch movies, read and knit, and usually is amenable to trying new and unfamiliar things.

Currently living in a group facility, Jessica, 15, has been described by staff there as “curious, cooperative, fun and well-behaved.” While she has a tendency to focus on specific issues, Jessica will respond when limits are set.

A seventh-grader, Jessica is receiving special education services. She is enrolled in both self-contained and mainstream classes.

While she finds math challenging, Jessica is an avid reader. She enjoys both the academic and social aspects of school.

Jessica came into the care of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services in 1992.

She has had several foster care placements during her time in care, including two pre-adoptive placements that were unsuccessful. Jessica has two brothers and a grandmother with whom she would like to have contact after her adoption.

Anxious to have an adoptive family, Jessica would do well with a single mother or a two-parent family.

Those who work closely with Jessica would prefer that her adoptive parents have experience in working with individuals with developmental disabilities.

Jessica loves attention and would enjoy helping with household activities as well as participating in recreational activities outside the home.

Jessica is one of 226 Maine children currently in Maine DHHS care who are seeking an adoptive family.

For more information about her or other children available for adoption, please contact A Family for ME at (877) 505-0545 or visit www.afamilyforme.org.

Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
