Motorists traveling on Route 1A in Dedham were delayed Saturday afternoon when heavy rains made traveling through a road construction area difficult. According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, the rain softened the dirt road where crews have been rebuilding a section of the highway, creating potholes and soft spots. Complaints began coming into the Sheriff’s Department at around 12:30 p.m. There were reports that vehicles had become stuck in the softer areas, and that some had slid off the road, but those reports were not confirmed. With cars moving slowly through the construction area, traffic backed up along Route 1A in both directions. Tempers flared on occasion, but there were no serious incidents. A road crew used a grader to repair the road, and traffic was moving smoothly again by late afternoon.
