ELLSWORTH – A local funeral home operator has been honored by the University of Southern Maine as one of the outstanding family-owned businesses in Maine.

Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home was recognized last month by USM’s Institute for Family-Owned Business. Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home won the institute’s Gannett Family Business of the Year award in the small-business category. Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers of Auburn won the award among businesses with 50 or more employees.

The honors were announced in June at the institute’s annual awards dinner at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport.

USM’s Institute for Family-Owned Business is a nonprofit organization established in 1995 to offer expertise and support to family-owned businesses in Maine.
