The Maine Department of Health and Human Services announced recently that it has received a $3.48 million dollar grant, being spread over the next five years.

The award has been given to DHHS for treatment of persons with Co-Occurring Substance Related and Mental Disorders, or COSIG.

The grant is part of the larger effort to build treatment capacity in the state for those who experience such disorders.

The federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration presented DHHS with the funds.

Through the project, the state will test system changes and infrastructure enhancements to determine what programs are more effective for American Indians, migrant workers and immigrants from Asia and Africa.
