Houlton man indicted on child pornography charge

BANGOR – A Houlton man awaiting sentencing on charges of sexually abusing three children was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury for allegedly having child pornography on his computer.

Roy Lewis Rogers, 44, is scheduled to be sentenced July 28 in Aroostook County Superior Court on state charges. He pleaded guilty earlier this year to gross sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a minor. He could be sentenced to more than 10 years in prison on those charges.

He was arrested last July as part of an ongoing investigation, Houlton police Chief Daniel Soucy said in September when Rogers was indicted by the Aroostook County grand jury. The case involved three children who were all under age 16, Aroostook County District Attorney Neal Adams said last year.

Rogers is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 3 on the federal charge in U.S. District Court in Bangor. If convicted, he faces up to five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

He is being held in the Aroostook County Jail.

In an unrelated case, a Unity man was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury on charges of transporting or shipping child pornography and possessing child pornography on his computer.

David B. Kingbury, 44, is being held in Waldo County Jail on state charges. He was indicted earlier this year by a Waldo County grand jury on charges of distributing sexually explicit material, harassment, violation of condition of release and assault on a corrections officer. Those cases are pending, according to the Waldo County District Attorney’s Office.

If convicted in state court, Kingbury faces up to 10 years in prison.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on the federal charges in U.S. District Court in Bangor. If convicted on those charges, he faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years in federal prison on the transporting charge and up to 10 years on the possession charge. He also could be fined up to $250,000 on each charge.

Others indicted Tuesday in federal court included:

Savita Singh-Murray, 37, of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, alien smuggling.

Augustus J. Edgerton, 35, Houlton, false statement in connection with attempted acquisition of a firearm.
