BAR HARBOR – Maine competitors fared well at the Junior National 5,000-meter racewalk championship held recently at Mount Desert Island High School.

In the boys’ division, two-time national champion Zachary Pollinger from Mahwah, N.J., lapped the field to win in 22 minutes, 10.55 seconds. Matthew Forgues, 13, of Boothbay, finished fifth overall in 27:45.06, while Padric Gleason of Dresden was sixth and Taylor Burns of Scarborough placed seventh.

Dana Vered of Paramus, N.J., won the girls race, with Tina Peters of Yellow Springs, Colo., second. Top Maine finishers were Ashley Taylor of Bath (fifth place), Helen Pottle of Perry (sixth), Sara Peak of Farmington (eighth), Sarah Adams of Lisbon (ninth) and Sara Whitney of Lincoln (10th).
