Brandy, 14, is outgoing, loves horses

Brandy, 14, is an animal lover with a special admiration for horses. She would love to attend horseback-riding camp during the summer. Brandy adores all animals, but is particularly fond of cats, dogs and other household pets.

When not interacting with animals, Brandy has a wonderful ability to make friends. She is an outgoing young lady and participates in her school’s drama club. Brandy also enjoys surfing the Internet, listening to music, and singing.

Brandy has been in the care of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services since January 1999. Although she makes friends easily, Brandy has a difficult time socializing in large groups and is working on acting more age-appropriate. She has been described as inquisitive, resilient, funny and willing to try new things.

One of Brandy’s challenges is a visual motor-organizational deficit, which affects her academic performance. Because of this challenge, Brandy requires additional assistance with schoolwork.

Brandy would be most successful in a family with parents who are patient and will allow her the space and time she needs to adjust to a new family. Because she wants to know that she can trust someone, Brandy will not attach immediately to an adoptive family. Adoptive parents for Brandy, therefore, need to understand that they will not have an immediate parent-daughter connection with her.

A single mother or two-parent family will be considered. Brandy would do best as the oldest or only child in a family. She would love to have pets and has stated that she would like an adoptive family that is nice and will provide her with a home and love.

Brandy is one of 222 Maine children in Maine DHHS care seeking an adoptive home. For more information about Brandy or other children available for adoption, please contact A Family for ME at (877) 505-0545 or visit www.afamilyforme.org.

Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS offices throughout the state to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
