Missing stallion found 10 miles from home

DEXTER – A stallion reported missing and possibly stolen on Monday was located Friday about 10 miles from where it was last seen in Parkman and was returned to its owners.

The 4-year-old Hanoverian stallion named Ivan was turned in by an unidentified person who said the animal was found wandering, according to the horse’s owners, Ed and Christina Holloway. State police are investigating the incident.

The horse was believed to have been taken from a pasture in Parkman while the Holloways were moving their belongings to Steuben. Christina Holloway said the couple had sold their home and had asked friends to look after the horse until they could get a trailer and move Ivan to his new quarters. The friends had checked on the horse Monday night but when they returned Tuesday morning it had vanished.

“Someone cut his mane, tail, and bangs and he had been ridden hard,” said Christina Holloway on Friday night, describing Ivan’s condition after he was returned to them. “He was dehydrated.”

Ivan, whose value is estimated at between $10,000 and $20,000, is currently being housed at the Hamilton Farm in Dexter until the Holloways can make arrangements to transport him to Steuben.
