Special Olympians will have an opportunity to tee it up during a “Day on the Links” Sunday thanks to 13 golf courses and their professionals who are members of the Maine Chapter of the New England PGA.

Olympians will gather at 3 p.m. at sites across Maine where they will have free use of equipment and instruction, and compete in contests.

Clubs hosting Olympians are Martindale, Presque Isle, Sable Oaks, Sugarloaf, Kebo Valley, Augusta, Rockland, J.W. Parks, Bangor Municipal, Brunswick, Waterville, St. Croix, and York Golf and Tennis.

The Maine Golf Hall of Fame and Special Olympics Maine, an organization whose work adds vital, positive experiences for men and women with mental disabilities, organize the day. Al Biondi, PGA, a member of the Maine Golf Hall of Fame and director of golf at Springbrook GC, concieved the event in 2001.
