Day helps Penquis gain split against Trenton

BLUE HILL – Eric Day singled twice and drove in three runs to help Penquis edge Trenton 4-3 in the opener of an American Legion Baseball doubleheader. Trenton came back and won the second game 10-5.

In the first game, Danny Kane added two singles and two runs for Penquis. Blake Wessel led Trenton with a double and two singles, and Sam Merrill singled twice.

In the second game, Trenton’s Collin Henry knocked in two runs on a sacrifice fly and two singles. Wessel chipped in with two singles and a triple. Dan Hilts struck out nine.

Kane had two RBIs on a double and a single, while Day drove in two runs on two singles.

At Brewer on Sunday, Harry Austin smacked a grand slam in the fourth inning and also had a single as the Patriots handed the Falcons just their second loss of the season.

Presque Isle’s R.J. Richardson went 5-for-5 with five singles plus a sacrifice fly for one RBI.

Joe Robicheau paced Brewer with a three-run homer in the fifth. Pat Moran hit a two-run double and added another double and a single, while Kevin McAvoy doubled twice.

Brewer sweeps Lincoln

At Lincoln, Brewer’s Andrew Patterson pitched a five-hitter for a 14-1 win and Pat Moran tossed a six-hitter for a 15-1 victory and sweep of Lincoln Saturday.

Patterson struck out nine in the first game and was helped out by Corey Cushing and Chris McGuire, who both singled twice and drove in two runs. Kevin McAvoy doubled.

Tyler Thompson singled twice for Lincoln.

In the second game, Matt Grimes paced Brewer with a home run, two singles and three RBIs. Jeff Miller and Moran both chipped in with a double and single with Miller driving in two runs and Moran driving in one. Andrew Otis added a single and an RBI.

Thompson had an RBI single for Lincoln.

At Lincoln on Sunday, Jason Murchison homered and tripled to drive in two runs and power Lincoln to the win.

Josh Seeley also homered for Lincoln and added a single. Everett Houghton tripled, doubled and drove in a run, while Jordan Burleigh hit two singles and had an RBI.

Steve Colbath led Calais with a solo home run in the fifth.

Hampden, Penquis split

At Hampden on Saturday, Chris Pease had an RBI single in the fifth and pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks as Hampden tipped Penquis 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader. Penquis won the second game 8-2.

In the first game, Hampden’s Ian Lee added a sacrifice fly in the third for a run. Josh Pelletier of Penquis had two singles and Tim McCarthy had a single and an RBI.

In the second game, Roy Burdin knocked in two runs on a triple and a single for Penquis. Aaron Woodman hit three singles and Eric Day singled twice.

Hampden’s Lee had an RBI single and a solo home run. Billy Shannon hit three singles and Dan McLean had two.

At Old Town, Scott Hackett lead Bangor with two singles, a double, and a huge home run in the third scoring two runs.

Gordon Webb and Brian Hackett both added with three singles each, and Alex Means had four singles. Eric Anderson hit two singles and Josh Young had a double all for the winners. Anthony DeRosa had nine strikeouts.

Jarrett Lukas and Dusty Thomas for Orono both had a double and a single. Jacob Lukas added with two singles.

Orono sweeps Calais

At Calais, Dusty Thomas cranked a two-run homer and a solo shot to lead Orono by Calais 7-1 for a sweep of a Saturday doubleheader. Orono won the first game 11-5.

Cody Andrews chipped in with two singles for the winners, Mike Tardiff had a double and two RBIs, Jarret Lukas had an RBI single and Corey Estes doubled.

Anthony Lewey and James Ramsdell each singled twice for Calais.

In the first game, George Keefe slammed a three-run homer and singled to lead Orono. Brian Roach chipped in with a two-run homer and Thomas doubled and drove in two runs. Tardiff added an RBI single and Lukas doubled.

Jeff Ramsdell singled twice and drove in a run to pace Calais and Steve Colbeth added a single and double.

Presque Isle, Waldo split

At Presque Isle on Saturday, Tim Lyford scored the only run of the first game of a doubleheader when he walked, stole second, advanced on a passed ball and scored on another passed ball to lead Presque Isle to a 1-0 win. Waldo edged Presque Isle 7-5 in eight innings in the second game.

In the first game, Ryan Brewer doubled in the third for Presque Isle’s only hit against Waldo’s Tyson McHatten, who struck out five in the loss. Andrew York also struck out five and scattered four hits in the win. Mike Davee singled twice for Waldo.

In the second game, Mike Cummings’ RBI single and Mike Adams’ RBI sacrifice fly helped Waldo take a lead in the eighth. Brendan Gardner had an RBI single in the sixth to help tie the game. McHatten had a double and a single.

Dan Michaud singled twice and doubled for an RBI and Chad Lavway added a double, a single and an RBI for Presque Isle.

Monteville sweeps Aerus

At Hermon Sunday, Nate Hall outdueled Mark Farnham for a 2-1 victory by Monteville in the first game and then Monteville’s offense banged out 12 hits for a 7-1 Bay League baseball victory in the second.

In the first game, Gerald Hews led off the seventh with a double, Ben Relyea singled, and Roland Littlefield followed up a strikeout by getting a fielder’s choice groundout RBI to win the game.

Hall allowed four hits and three walks while notching 10 strikeouts. Farnham allowed four hits.

Relyea had a double and a single and Devin Potvin added an RBI single in the fourth for Monteville of Belfast.

Mark Farnham led Aerus with an RBI single in the third.

In the second game, Littlefield had a double, two singles, and an RBI to lead the way. Relyea and Potvin hit three singles each. George Tripp had two doubles and two RBIs.

Brook Sturtevant singled twice for Aerus Electrolux. Andy Treadwell added a double.

UBS , Searsport Split

At Searsport, UBS took the first game of a doubleheader 8-0, but Searsport came back to win the second 7-4.

In the second game, Dustin Jalbert had a double with three RBIs, and Will Hinkley and Brian Perry both had an RBI for Searsport.

Aaron Wilson for UBS hit a double and had three RBIs while Jason Harvey had a single with an RBI.

Movingme.com sweeps Blue Hill

At Blue Hill, Movingme.com banged out 20 hits in two games to sweep Blue Hill Bankers 10-3 and 7-2.

In the first game, Anthony Shaw hit a grand slam, Nate Susi had two doubles and a single, and Ryan Knight singled three times to pace Movinme.com. Eric Schwab added two singles.

Jacob Lowell, Jason Sargent and David Rackliffe each hit RBI singles for Blue Hill.

In the second game, Greg Hawes pitched a four-hitter to pace Movingme.com.

Ryan Logan singled twice while Schwab added an RBI double and Shaw hit an RBI single.

Patrick Kelly scored one run with an RBI single for Blue Hill.

Quirk sweeps Woodman’s

At Bangor, quirk picked up a 6-2 victory in the first game of a doubleheader and then beat Woodmans 14-4 in the second.

In the first game, Aaron Largay, Josh Emerson, Derek Prescott and Brian Worster each singled twice to pace Quirk.

Joel Perry hit three singles for Woodmans.

In the second game, Quirk erupted for 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Cliff Urquhart had a double, a single and two RBIs to lead Quirk. Darrin Daniels added two singles.

Billy Baker hit a triple and Ben Huber singled twice for Woodmans.
