HERMON – Hometown racer Jason Thayer won both the heat and feature race in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Sportsman Pro Stock division at Speedway 95 Saturday night, but third-place finisher and rookie Erik Worster of Lee was the big winner as the took over the points lead in the division from Ryan Deane of Winterport.
Carmel’s Don Alexander Jr. rebounded from a crash in last week’s race to finish second. Hermon’s Dale Swoboda and Corinna’s Paul White finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Wiscasset Raceway
At Wiscasset Saturday night, NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Ken Schrader accepted raceway owner David St. Clair’s invitation to come to Wiscasset and race and left with a victory after driving in the 30-lap Late Model Sportsman race.
The Fenton, Mo., native took a few practice laps with a car provided by St. Clair and started on the outside, but quickly disposed of the rest of the field in front of a near-capacity crowd.
Puncin St. Clair raced side by side with fellow Liberty resident Jerry Reynolds over the final 10 laps after starting 10th and finished second, just inches ahead of Reynolds, who had a personal-best third-place finish.

Winterport Dragway
At Winterport Saturday and Sunday, Randy Therrian of Unity took the Larrabee Box/No Box Challenge championship by outracing runner-up Tim Wilcox of Easton and Elaine Romano of Jay won the Larrabee Box/No Box Challenge best package championship to highlight the weekend racing schedule at Winterport Dragway.
Therrian finished first in the box challenge races, ahead of runner-up Linda Fuller of Old Town and Barney Ryan of Harmony.
Easton’s Tim Wilcox walked away with first place in the Larrabee No Box Challenge race as Winterport’s Robin Reynolds and Machias’ Curtis Robinson, Jr. were second and third, respectively.
