Bangor knocks off Holbrook Victory advances champs to Senior League World Series

BANGOR – Kyle Gallant hit an RBI single and Kyle Vanidestine a sacrifice fly in the second inning to give Bangor a lead it wouldn’t relinquish en route to a 4-2 District 3 Senior League All-Star championship victory over Holbrook Monday at Mansfield Stadium.

With the win, Bangor moves on to the Senior League World Series, which will be played at Mansfield in August.

Gordy Webb notched an RBI double and single for the winners while Ian Edwards doubled.

Gregg Higgins and Chris Smith each had two singles and an RBI to lead Holbrook.

Acadians 7, Sunrise 6

At Northeast Harbor, Jasper Cousins scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a pickoff play at third when the ball bounced off his helmet and into left field to lead the Acadians to the championship win over Sunrise.

Stephen Zirnkilton doubled and singled to knock in a run for the Acadians and Alex Woychik hit an three-run triple.

Calvin Tweedie had 10 strikeouts.

Matt Boyle had a two-run triple and an RBI double for Sunrise and Mickey Manning had three singles with an RBI.

Title game matchups set

Waldo and Lincoln County will meet for the District 2 title game today at 5:30 p.m. at Walsh Field in Belfast.

Waldo beat Bath 12-2 Sunday in the final game of Pool A, while Lincoln County beat Camden-Rockport 10-4 in Pool B. The winner of each pool advances to the championship game.

District 1, 11

Bucksport 6, Machias 5

At Machias, Andrew Giosia hit a solo homer and double to lead Bucksport to victory for the District 1 championship.

Dave Fucillo had two singles and two RBIs while Billy Deredin doubled for the winners.

Jesse Wood and Nick Pineo had two singles apiece for Machias.

Softball

District 1, 11-12

Calais 16, Machias 7

Calais rallied for seven runs in the fourth inning to beat Machias for the District 1 softball championship.

Rebecca Redding and Cassie Barnes each contributed an RBI single for the winners.

Karissa Hawkins singled, doubled and drove in two runs for Calais. Kaitlyn Look had two singles and two RBIs and Christina Ramsdell had a single and an RBI.
