Hampden secures final playoff berth in Zone 1

HAMPDEN – Ian Lee tallied two singles, a double, and drove in a run to lift Hampden by Lincoln 8-5 Tuesday for the final playoff spot in the American Legion Zone 1 baseball tourney.

Bangor and Brewer earned berths in the tourney by capturing the North and South division titles, respectively, while the next four spots went to the teams with the best records: Orono (14-8), Presque Isle (12-9), Trenton (11-11), and Hampden (10-12).

The Zone 1 tourney begins Friday at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor.

Matt Joy and Evan Farley each had two singles and an RBI for the winners while Chris Pease singled three times and drove in a run.

Tyler Thompson sparked the Lumber with two doubles, two singles, and two RBIs.

Waldo 2, Calais 1

At Belfast, Noah Burke hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to plate Michael Adams, who had singled earlier in the inning, to lift the Waldo Wildcats by the Suns.

Burke also doubled while Jake Arthurs laced an RBI double in the second and singled for Waldo. Ryan Shute added a pair of singles.

Aaron Sullivan, James Ramsdell, Lloyd Burnside, and Justin LeBlanc each had a single for the Suns.

Trenton 7, Penquis 0

At Husson College in Bangor, Collin Henry hit a solo home run in the third inning to lead Trenton to the six-inning, lightning-shortened win.

Adam Cousins hit a two-run triple in the first inning for the Acadians, and Will Rosenthal singled twice to drive in a run.

Aaron Woodman and Eric Day each singled in the first inning for Penquis.
