Kim Stowell and Nick Raymond have as bad a case of prewedding jitters as you can get.

The Hampden-based couple are in the running for an all-expenses paid dream wedding, sponsored by the “Today” show on NBC. This Friday, the winner of the “hometown wedding” will be announced on the morning show.

A “Today” show crew will broadcast from West Market Square in downtown Bangor, with the winner expected to be named between 7 and 7:15 a.m.

Stowell and Raymond are hoping to get a large crowd to come out and cheer them on.

The bride-to-be said that the word “excited” doesn’t do justice to the way she and her fiance are feeling this week.

“‘Excited’ is probably an understatement,” Stowell said Wednesday. “We’re both just incredibly excited and tired. We just got back from New York,” after appearing live Monday morning on “Today.”

“Today” will go live from the hometowns of all four couples in the running for the wedding. Lauren Kapp, an NBC publicist, said by e-mail that “Today” show crews would be in Bangor on Friday morning.

“Once the winner is picked, we begin planning [for the wedding],” she stated. “And each week they will appear live in NYC [on the show].”

The two UM graduates said they are optimistic about their chances of winning.

“We couldn’t have done better on the show,” Stowell said. “We’ve been trying to get the word out so people will come out on Friday.”

Stowell, now a UM graduate student, and Raymond, a high school math teacher at Hampden Academy, met on a blind date at a Halloween party in 2001. They have been together ever since.

Raymond proposed on Valentine’s Day of this year. The couple saw the “hometown wedding” contest advertised on NBC and thought they would give it a shot. They had no idea they would get this far.

“Nick is a little more calm than me,” Stowell said. “We’re not used to all this media attention. Our phone doesn’t stop ringing. It’s pretty overwhelming.”
