Machias Historical Society elects 1st board

MACHIAS – The Machias Historical Society, which formed for the first time in June, elected its first board of directors at its July meeting on Wednesday. David Brown of Machias will serve as president, and Chris Sprague of Marshfield is the vice president.

Two other Machias residents, Joan Bullock and Elaine Utley, were elected as the secretary and treasurer respectively. Seven other board members are John Ahlin, Valdine Atwood, Nathan Beal, Frank Cassidy and Norman Nelson, all of Machias; Carol Flores of Whitneyville; and Carol George of East Machias.

The next meeting of the historical society will be 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Hemingway Annex (the old town hall).
