While part of me wants to say, “It’s about time dads realize just how hard moms work every day,” I realize there are a lot of men out here who are quite familiar with runny noses, carpools and housework.
The new NBC reality series, “Meet Mister Mom,” puts dads in charge of the household for a week while mom is whisked away to the spa. I admit it’s funny to see some dads struggle to keep up with their busy families, especially since each episode is told from the perspective of the children, but it’s not reality for most families.
Today’s families often aren’t made up of a mom, dad, and children, but more and more frequently contain a single parent, step-parents and children, or grandparents.
While it’s nice to see these dads appreciate their wives a little more, “Meet Mister Mom” doesn’t exactly portray what family life is like for many Americans. That aside, the comedic relief makes this one worth tuning in for at least once.
“Meet Mister Mom” is scheduled to debut on NBC at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2.
As with most reality TV, there’s competition and a cash prize for the dad who can make it through the week with his head still attached.
And even though mom’s enjoying her vacation, closed-circuit TV allows her to watch the drama that unfolds while she’s getting massages and facials.
So moms, enjoy this one while you can and make sure to remind your husband how easy he has it.
But for those of you dads out there who handle a hectic household every day, keep up the good work and maybe NBC will have us meeting Mrs. Dad next season.
Speaking of things to watch for next season, there are rumors in the reality world that fans of “The Contender” might get to see another round.
Although the show’s ratings flopped as far as NBC was concerned, a few cable channels have taken an interest in continuing the action in the ring.
