War must end now

Our joy was indescribable as we stood along with the fabulous Maine Troop Greeters and welcomed our son and the 115th Field Hospital home from Iraq. We can’t thank the wonderful greeters enough for what they do every day to make so many sons and daughters smile and shed a tear of thanks.

However, our experience was bittersweet because just before the 115th boarded their flight to Fort Polk, La., another group of sons and daughters came through the gantlet of well-wishers made even longer by the cheers of the 115th. This group of Texas National Guardsman was not headed home, it was headed to Iraq.

So, though my husband and I were thrilled to have our precious child out of harm’s way, someone else’s precious child was headed into the catastrophe of the Iraq war.

This war must end now.

The Bush administration has created the most fertile terrorist training ground in the world and it is killing Americans and Iraqis every day. As they say – if you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention. Don’t let them sacrifice another precious child.
