DHL contractor settles dispute with union

BREWER – DHL contractor Rydbom Express has settled its labor dispute with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, according to a federal official.

Kathleen McCarthy of the federal National Labor Relations Board in Boston said Tuesday that the deal was struck July 22.

Details of the settlement were unavailable Tuesday. Attempts to contact Teamsters officials and Rydbom Express owner Doug Rydbom were unsuccessful.

Rydbom Express, based in Harrisburg, Pa., was accused of violating the National Labor Relations Act when it was hired in March to take over DHL’s delivery operations in eastern Maine. Twelve unionized former drivers for the previous contractor who were not re-hired by Rydbom were given their jobs back last month after NLRB officials filed a formal complaint against the Pennsylvania company.
