Pedestrian, 77, hit by car in Fort Kent still critical

FORT KENT – A 77-year-old Fort Kent woman who was struck while she walked across Main Street Monday afternoon was in critical condition at a Bangor hospital Tuesday.

Edith Brundy suffered severe head injuries and also leg and ankle injuries, according to Fort Kent Police Chief Kenneth Michaud.

She was transported to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent by ambulance and later to Eastern Maine Medical Center at Bangor.

Officials at EMMC Tuesday said that Brundy remained in critical condition.

Brundy was walking south across Main Street at about 2:40 p.m. Monday when she was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by Kasey E. Pelletier of Fort Kent.

Michaud said neither speed nor alcohol was involved in the incident. The accident happened near the Gas N Go Convenience Store. Brundy was reportedly returning to her River Street home. Michaud said it looked as though neither Brundy nor Pelletier saw the other.

“It almost looked like she walked into the side of the car,” he said. “There was no front-end damage to the car. There was some side damage.”

Michaud said Brundy’s head and face struck the windshield of the car.

Pelletier, 16, was operating a 2003 sedan owned by her father, Rodney Pelletier, also of Fort Kent. There was little damage to the car.
