Rockstock turnout small, but organizers plan encore

OLD TOWN – Disappointed but not discouraged, the two brothers who organized an outdoor concert to benefit Maineiac Charities of the Maine Air National Guard are hoping people will continue to donate to the cause.

Kevin and Scott Hamel last weekend brought together six rock ‘n’ roll bands for Rockstock, and although the event was well organized, not many people attended.

After the Hamels paid the bills for restroom facilities, security, and other expenses, there wasn’t enough money left to make a donation to the charity.

“It went very well [but] didn’t get the turnout we were hoping for,” Nicole Belanger, one of the event’s organizers and supporters, said Monday.

The two brothers, both Army veterans and musicians, plan to hold the concert again next year but will do more advertising, they said.

Old Town police provided security for the evening portion of the concert and said there were no problems.

“It was pretty peaceful,” Officer Brent Fournier said.

The brothers are hoping that people will still donate to the cause and are selling T-shirts from the event for $15 apiece. Donations also can be sent to Kevin Hamel, 215 Gilman Falls Ave., Old Town 04468.
