Scarborough wins Junior title

GLENBURN – Katie Funk had a triple, single and three RBIs as Scarborough nipped Biddeford 10-9 in the second game of a doubleheader to win the state Junior League All-Star softball title Tuesday.

Biddeford won 6-4 earlier in the day to force a second game in the ages 13-14 tourney.

In the second game, Scarborough scored five times in the top of the sixth to erase a 7-5 deficit.

Alexis Gerrison had two singles, a double, and drove in a run, and Jon Colpitts doubled and singled twice.

Lauren Rousseau singled three times and plated two runs for Biddeford.

In the first game, Erin Grover had a double, single, and two RBIs, and Caitlin Pleau two singles and an RBI to pace Biddeford.

Funk had two doubles and four RBIs for Scarborough, and Colpitts hit three singles.

At South Portland, Camden-Rockport eliminated Orrington to advance to Wednesday’s championship round.

Camden-Rockport will take on South Portland North at 5:30 p.m.

District 3, 9-10

Hermon 15, Bangor 12

At Bangor over the weekend, Laura Sirois tripled and doubled while Kayla Snow tripled to give Hermon the district title.

Hermon advanced to the state tourney at the Old Town High field where it will play at 10 a.m. Saturday against the winner of Friday’s game between Waldoboro and Auburn Suburban.

Winning pitcher Abby Burgess added a triple in the District 3 final while Rachel Guimond hit a double and single for Hermon.

Carly Cosgrove and Dana Johnson each singled three times, and Jade Baumrind notched two singles for Bangor.

Portland North 10, Dirigo 0

At Gordon Field in Rockland, Nate Smart slammed a three-run double to help Portland North jump out to a four-run lead en route to the four-inning victory.

Portland North advanced to take on Bangor East today at 5:30 p.m. The winner advances to Saturday’s championship game against York.

Ryan Casale earned the win for Portland North by allowing only one hit while striking out six. Smart also had a single and double while Tyler Strauss chipped in with a single and double.

State, 11-12

Bangor East 8, Saco 7

At Falmouth Monday, Adam King slapped a two-run single in the top of the sixth to cap a four-run inning for Bangor East.

Bangor East advanced to take on Camden-Rockport at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Camden-Rockport eliminated Bucksport.

King wound up with three singles and four RBIs for the winners. Tyler Desjardins hit a two-run homer in the top of the fifth and doubled twice.

Brian Wiederhold notched an RBI double while Fred Randall and Nate Colpitts each had an RBI single for Saco.

Auburn 9, Brewer 5

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Devin Flynn smacked a three-run triple to spark an eight-run seventh inning to help Auburn eliminate Brewer.

Shane Cierillo had two singles and an RBI for the winners while Josh Marns tripled.

Matt Helfen sparked Brewer with an RBI double. Billy Bissell and Ryan Parkhurst each notched a double.

South Portland 6, Kennebunk 4

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Dan Foster hit a two-run single in the top of the second to lead South Portland to victory.

Mike DiCenso had two singles with an RBI for the winners. Josh Mackie and John Corey each had a double and a single.

Ian Borwis led Kennebunk with an RBI triple and a single.
