BANGOR – Thomas Stone, chairman of the John Bapst Memorial High School board of trustees, announced that Head of School Landis Green has been chosen to participate in the Klingenstein Visiting Fellows Program at Columbia University next January.

One of only 20 heads of independent schools worldwide selected for the two-week program of intensive study and reflection, Green and the other Visiting Fellows will examine educational issues and policies, drawing on an extensive reading list and a variety of prominent speakers. Seminars and colloquia will address current issues confronting independent school educators.

Stone said that in two years with the school, Green has demonstrated a significant capacity for leadership of this kind. He has led the school through Phase II of its strategic planning process, has served two years as a summer faculty member of the National Association of Independent School’s Leadership Institute, has co-sponsored the school’s new Civil Rights Team and has initiated a series of ethics training through the Institute for Global Ethics for faculty, staff and students for the coming year.

The 2006 Fellows also will focus on one important issue concerning their home schools. Time will be allotted for relevant readings and group discussion on those topics.
