Sox championship run featured on 11-DVD set

If you have a spare 35 hours and 10 minutes to relive all of the glory and excitement from the Boston Red Sox 2004 season, or you’re looking to get a gift for the Sox fan who has everything, Major League Baseball Productions has just the thing.

The folks at MLBP have released a groundbreaking, 11-DVD boxed set titled “The Boston Red Sox: 2004 World Series Collector’s Edition,” and if you’ve been holding out for a video collection encompassing everything involving last season, your wait is over.

This ambitious, meticulously-thorough release by A&E Home Video and MLBP started arriving in stores Tuesday, and despite a hefty suggested retail price of $130, it has Red Sox Nation fanatics salivating.

“This is the biggest thing they’ve ever put out and for the first time ever, we have entire, unedited, uncut major league games on DVD or video,” said Drew Avril, press agent for MLB Productions and an official at Foundry Communications.

Nearly 40 hours of baseball action, highlights, behind-the-scenes action, interviews, and celebration may seem like overkill, but when you’ve waited 86 for something like a World Series championship to happen, it’s understandable.

The set includes 11 discs documenting each American League Championship Series and World Series game from start to finish in “real player sound” plus a bonus disc which includes the official 2004 World Series film as well as on-field, wireless recordings of players such as David Ortiz, Kevin Millar and Mike Timlin; player profiles; interviews with comedians Denis Leary and Seth Meyers; and the 2005 opening day World Series ring presentation ceremony.

If this wasn’t already enough to make fans whip out the plastic, each single game DVD has been packaged SleeveStats: a trademarked exterior packaging that features inning-by-inning box scores, starting pitchers, game statistics, trivia, complete number of pitches, strikes, fouls, and even game-day facts like attendance, time, and temperature.

WVII goes to Q School

Bangor television station WVII (Channel 7) will broadcast the Chrysler Q-School Shootout from last weekend’s Greater Bangor Open.

For the second straight year, WVII will air the event as a half-hour special twice: 4:30 p.m. Saturday on Fox Network sister station WFVX (Ch. 22) and 6 p.m. Sunday on WVII. WVII sports director Tim Baier will host the special along with Phil McFarlane.

The Q-School is a contest in which nine golfers shoot for accuracy and skill with the winner gaining entry to the PGA Tour National Qualifying Tournament, a prize worth approximately $4,000.
